Better-Than-Starbucks Homemade Matcha Latte
I love this homemade matcha latte because it’s simple, delicious, and much healthier than buying one from a coffee shop. It takes just a few minutes to make, costs much less than a café drink, and tastes amazing!
You Can Get These at Costco
● Matcha tea powder
● Kirkland Organic Whole Milk (8 fl oz cartons)
The best part? These milk cartons don’t require refrigeration until they’re opened. I keep several in my pantry, so I always have milk on hand for making matcha lattes, creamy soups, or other recipes. No more throwing away spoiled milk because I didn’t use it in time! I use it when I don’t have time to make my homemade almond or pecan nut milk.
Ingredients (Makes 2 Cups)
● 1 teaspoon matcha powder
● 2 cartons (8 oz each) Kirkland Organic Whole Milk
● Brown sugar or honey, to taste
● A pinch of cinnamon (optional) and tumeric (optional)
Directions
1. Pour the two cartons of milk into a small saucepan.
2. Heat the milk over medium heat until it is warm, but not boiling. Warm milk helps the matcha dissolve more easily.
3. Add the matcha powder and a little brown sugar (or honey) to the warm milk. (Or better, use this narural sweetener Monk fruit sugar instead.)
4. Whisk continuously while heating until the matcha is fully dissolved and the latte is smooth and hot.
5. If desired, add a tiny pinch of cinnamon for extra warmth and flavor. I also like to add a bit of tumeric to boost its health benefit.
6. Taste and adjust the sweetness. I prefer mine only lightly sweetened, so I add just a little brown sugar.
That’s it! You don’t need a special bamboo whisk or fancy matcha-making equipment. I simply use a regular kitchen whisk, and it works perfectly.
My Honest Opinion
I told my daughter, and she agreed—it tastes even better than Starbucks’ Matcha Latte! By making it yourself, you can save a lot of money over time,; moreover, control how much sugar goes into your drink, and enjoy a healthier cup without the sugary syrups often found in coffee shop beverages.
I had already finished drinking the matcha latte before I thought about taking pictures! Next time I make it, I’ll remember to take step-by-step photos and a picture of the finished latte to share with you.
